1.-Schutzhund is a German word meaning "protection dog." It was first developed in Germany at the turn of the century as a comprehensive test of the German Shepherd dog to evaluate its suitability for breeding as a working dog. Schutzhund competitions are strict and force you and your dog to be at your best. Schutzhund competition is divided into three parts: protection, obedience, and tracking. For more information, go to the training portion of our site.
2.-At K9 Koncepts, we do not train you or your dog to become a danger to society. We help you train your dog for basic obedience, protection, agility, handicapped assistance, Schutzhund and many other specialized programs. We also train you to handle your dog responsibly. Control is a key factor in our training.
3.- Of course not. We can train dogs of any ages. Contrary to popular belief, you can teach old dogs new tricks. Puppy training is best if you want to avoid problems, but adult dog training can break bad habits and help you become closer to your pet.
4.- Here at K9 Koncepts, all breeds are welcome. We can train any type of dog at any age. Our Schutzhund/Protection program is ideally designed for the working breeds such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Doberman Pinschers, but we can train any dog for obedience, agility, or handicapped assistance. Customized training programs are also available.
5.- We have a spacious training facility in Brooklyn Park, Maryland. Contact us if you would like to see a demonstration of our training programs.
6.- For basic obedience training, you should bring an apron, sliced hot dogs, a 6-8 foot leash, and a training (prong) collar.
For Schutzhund/protection, you should bring a high-quality leather collar, a high-quality leather muzzle and your leash. Fresh drinking water for your dog is provided at our training facility.
You can purchase an apron, a leash, training collar, leather collar and leather muzzle at our training facility.
7.- Basic obedience training includes heel, sit, down, stay, and come. These commands are taught on and off leash.
